FAQ

Q. How easy is it to fold the wings on the Highlander?

  • Folding  the wings on all Just Aircraft products is a quick 3 step process:
  1. Check to be sure you have fuel levels at less then 1/3 of a tank in each tank and you have clearance from any objects/obsticles in the arc your wings will travel.
  2. With a Phillips heads screw driver release the 7 camlocks in you turtle deck and remove the turtle deck.  I usually store mine in my luggage compartment.
  3. Pull the pins in your wing root and walk your wings back to the folded position.  If you are trailering your aircraft you should attach the brace between your aft lift strut and the attach point on the horizontal stab.

Q. Are tricycle gear available on the Highlander?

  • Yes.  We have several owner with tricycle gear Highlanders. The big difference is the conventional gear  legs are longer on the Highlander models and they are not innerchangable like the Escapade main gear.

Q. What is the normal cruise speed of the Highlander?

  • Let’s be honest folks this airplane is about going slow not going fast. Compared to a Cub or a Champ it will do both better. Cruise is 95 mph and stall is 26 mph with the 912ULS.

Q. If I build my Escapade on tricycle gear to learn to fly, how hard is it to change it to conventional gear later?

  • The Escapade landing gear has perfect geometry in the main gear length and shape to remove each gear leg and re-install it on the opposite side of the aircraft at the forward attachments. This re-configuration takes two people and a couple of saw horses unless you have a drop chain to hoist the airplane in your hangar. The tailwheel is installed in the same position as the tailskid/tie down and the nose gear must be removed to complete your transition.

Q. Why would I want to certify my aircraft E-LSA?

  • The E-LSA catagory was created with the recreational flyer in mind. The catagory itself has created an environment for affordable flying. It is cheaper to learn if you have never flown before as well as operate if you had a previous pilot rating. The biggest plus for all of us is that you can sell your aircraft to another person and they can take a short LSA repairmen course to learn the airworthiness requirements so they can become their own repairmen.
